Celine Dion Reclaims Her Icon Status with Her Style Renaissance

Rewind your memory two or three decades, and you’ll find yourself on the precipice of Celine Dion’s icon singer status. Her legendary hits, many of which were featured as the soundtrack to some of the biggest films of our time (Beauty in the Beast, 1992 and My Heart Will Go On, Titanic 1998), were also the soundtracks to our lives. Fast forward to 2017, and the icon is reclaiming her throne — but this time, with her fashion sense. Ever since her debut appearance at the 2017 Met Gala, where she donned a show-stopping custom silver-and-black gown with a high slit and origami-inspred headpiece by Versace, the legendary singer has become the new it girl of avant garde fashion. Thanks in part to her stylist Law Roach, who is best known for his amazing work with Zendaya, Celine Dion is donning look after look that is only fitting of the music royalty that she is.

While many fashion experts are proclaiming that Celine Dion’s impeccable style sensibility is a new phenomenon, the truth is that her fashion has always been on point. Throughout the years, she’s always managed to stay ahead of trends while effortlessly incorporating her own spunk. Celine Dion has long been one of my biggest  fashion inspirations — from her iconic backward tuxedo moment at the 1999 Oscar awards to her endless diva gowns. If you take a look back at some of her iconic early looks, there’s no surprise that her fashion revival is so newsworthy.

These days, Celine Dion’s style sensibility has aged like fine wine. The songstress is nearly always spotted in looks fresh off of the runway. The fashion darling is now a regular at all of the couture shows — and I’d bet that she attends them just to get first dibs on her favorite designer pieces. She’s become the newest muse of Anna Wintour, which earned her the opportunity to star in Vogue’s official Couture Week campaign video. But the best part of all is how much fun Celine Dion appears to be having through it all. Her vivacious spirit is simply intoxicating, quickly making her a personal favorite of some of the biggest fashion houses of our time (although her music certainly gave her a head start).

The Cinderella Story of Celine Dion’s fashion evolution is so inspiring to me as a fan. It reminds of the power of fashion to redefine someone  (even as legendary as the Canadian songstress who has sold 250 million records worldwide) while exuding the essence of who they are. Celine Dion’s refreshingly exuberant personality and vibrant presence makes her an invigorating type of it girl that the fashion world has been missing. I can’t wait to see what the music (and now fashion) icon has in store for us next.
